DEVELOPING PEOPLE

Magsaysay invests heavily in training facilities in the maritime, hospitality and culinary fields offering competency development and assessments as well as value formation to ensure the workforce is able to meet global standards.

The Magsaysay Institute of Shipping (MIS), established in 1993, sponsors over 400 seafarer candidates for a maritime career yearly. It provides partner maritime colleges with industry requirements to improve their curricula. Candidates are sourced from top science high schools and enter a career path to become senior management officers. MIS also offers continuous training courses to improve seafarers’ work performance.  The training and career path systems of Magsaysay, with MIS as its training arm, establish a continuous pipeline of quality crew and officers.  Since 1993, MIS has had over 3,500 graduates.

The Magsaysay Training Center (MTC), established in 1970, trains over 15,000 seafarers per year and offers international certification courses. It develops customized courses for Magsaysay principals covering a wide breadth of competencies, producing well-trained crew.

The Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) in Manila and Makati in the Philippines, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Guangzhou in China, offers training certificates for housekeeping, food and beverage, baking and pastry, and culinary arts based on standards of its industry partners including the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council, Talentbank, and IATA.

Our training programs have created a pool of over 30,000 globally competent professionals, ready for deployment.
