Panama’s Maritime Authorities Visit Manila

Panama’s Maritime Authority (AMP) Deputy Administrator Jorge Barakat Pitty and Director of Seafarers . José Luis Aizpurúa visited Manila and met Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Dr. Maximo Mejia Jr to discuss strategy for a transparent and efficient maritime service and the assessment of competence of seafarers.

According to AMP Administrator Barakat, it is important to maintain a close relationship with the Philippines since 60% of the seafarers working on Panama-flagged vessels are Filipinos. The maritime chiefs also discussed the safety and welfare of the Filipino seafarers in compliance with MLC 2006.

The Panamanian authorities also met with top executives of Magsaysay Maritime Corporation and discussed updates on the latest standards regarding seafarers’ IDs and assessments certificates.
