The Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) amendments requiring all ships to have plans and procedures to recover persons from the water entered into force on July 1, 2014. This is to ensure that all ships have plans, procedures and the right equipment to be able to rescue persons from the water as well as to minimize the risk to ship crew involved in such a process.
