Advisory: DOLE and POEA Suspend Deployment of New OFWs to Thailand

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz issued instruction to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on a deployment ban on Filipino migrant workers in Thailand after the Thai Army declared martial law in the country.

On May 20, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has raised the Alert Level 2 (Restriction Phase) for Thailand following the declaration of martial law in the country. Under Alert Level 2, only the processing and deployment of returning OFWs with existing employment contracts shall be allowed and the processing and deployment of newly-hired OFWs shall be suspended. The POEA Governing Board issued a resolution (GBR No. 6 Series of 2014) imposing a temporary suspension on processing and deployment of newly-hired OFWs bound for Thailand.
