MARINA Administrator Recognized in Lloyd's List Top 100 Most Influential People in the Shipping Industry for 2013

Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Maximo Q. Mejia has been included in Lloyd’s List annual report of the world’s most powerful people in the global shipping industry. Dr. Mejia was recognized in assessment of MARINA reforms to improve training, certification and watchkeeping for Filipino seafarers, which resulted to the closure of several maritime schools considered to be below standard.

The repor​t mentioned the European Maritime Security Audit in the Philippines where MARINA has been tasked as the lead agency to manage and oversee the quality of the Philippines maritime education and to avoid the blanket ban on Filipino crew. The report also documented Mejia’s achievements including Maritime Law and Policy Head at World Maritime University in Sweden, Law and Diplomacy Master’s Degree from Tufts University in US, and as a graduate of US Naval Academy.

Dr. Mejia took his oath of office as MARINA administrator last May 27, 2013. His mastery of the maritime industry was perceived to help Philippines comply with international standards of the shipping industry.
