MTC Holds Pilot Class of IGF Code Course

The Magsaysay Training Center (MTC) delivered the Basic Training for Ships Subject to the IGF Code Course to its pilot class last October 7-10. The IGF Code course is intended for seafarers who have designated safety duties related with the use of gases or other low-flashpoint fuels to minimize the risk to the ships, crew members, and environment, given the nature of the fuels involved.

Attended by the officers and crew members of Carnival Maritime Group, Westfal-Larsen Management AS, and Dorian Hellas S.A., the 4-day intensive training, conducted at MTC Manila and Practicum Site in Cavite, provided the pilot class with the mandatory competencies and the required knowledge on the arrangement, installation, control and monitoring of machinery, equipment and systems using low-flashpoint fuels, focusing initially on liquefied natural gas (LNG). Ms. Presca Lee Lugo, OIC-STCW Research and Development Division of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), was also present and assessed the pilot training.

MTC is officially accredited by MARINA to deliver IGF Code Course. After the successful training, participants received a certificate in compliance with the MARINA Training Standard.
