MMMA Cadets Participate at Carnival Cadet Summit

Four cadets from the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) were invited to attend the Cadet Summit held last August 14-17 at the CSMART Academy in Almere, Netherlands. This was the first summit organized by the Carnival Maritime Group (CMG) for its sponsored 35 cadets representing 8 different countries.

The selected MMMA cadets were Deck Cadets Gerald Manalo and Jenny Belle Garcia, Engine Cadet John Riomar Catinguel, and Electrical Cadet Renz–Evol Fernandez. They were accompanied by Sorwin Joy Rivera, Fleet HR Director of Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC). The MMMA cadets were presented as the first cadets sponsored by the CMG from their first year of maritime studies until they become officers.

During the summit, Deck Cadet Garcia volunteered to present about the dynamite fishing. She confidently talked about the subject and was given a loud applause after her presentation. The event served as a platform to conduct workshop and team building focusing on sustainability, leadership, and social media and to discuss several case studies concerning environmental and LNG issues.

All participating cadets also boarded the Costa Mediterranea for a bridge and engine room familiarization. At the ship visit, they also had the chance to meet former cadets who are now officers. It was a great opportunity to get together and share their experiences and life onboard.

With the success of its first Cadet Summit, CMG plans to turn this fun-filled summit into an annual event where cadets can engage, inspire, and share bright ideas together.
