Costa Campus Conducts Shipboard Training for Magsaysay Group

Magsaysay's delegation from the Philippines and Indonesia were welcomed by Costa's Comandante Giacomo Longo, Andrea Tonini, and onboard HR Management team

As part of its strategic plan to align actual shipboard practices with shore-side training and recruitment, Costa Campus hosted eighteen delegates from the Philippines and Indonesia aboard Costa Mediterranea last January 19-25, 2018.

The delegation, made up of representatives from PT Alpha Magsaysay Inc., Magsaysay Maritime Corporation and Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA), was joined by Andrea Tonini, Head of Hotel Talent Acquisition, Corporate Human Resources of Costa Crociere S.p.A.

During the visit, the heads of the different hotel departments gave the group an orientation about their unit’s major responsibilities, organization, and most importantly, suggestions on what to emphasize during the training of newly hired crew. Andrea Tonini highlighted the importance of security and safety onboard. “Safety is everybody’s responsibility regardless of the position. You have to see the world from a sea perspective,” affirmed Tonini.

Aside from meeting the officers and crew of Costa Mediterranea, the delegates were also toured in the facilities of the ship and document actual and real-time operations during the week-long Dubai-Emirates cruise. The delegates learned a lot about the new policies and programs being implemented on board and these learnings will be cascaded to all Costa trainees of MIHCA.

With the forthcoming launch of Costa’s two new ships, Costa Smeralda and Costa Venezia, the immersion is expected to strengthen Costa Cruises brand’s “Italy’s Finest” and “Here For You” service in the areas of recruitment, training and manning operations for its Filipino and Indonesia crew.
