Magsaysay Institute of Shipping Holds 6th Graduation Ceremony for Academe-Industry Linkage Program

Magsaysay Institute of Shipping (MIS) conducted the graduation ceremony for the sixth batch of cadet scholars under the Academe-Industry Linkage Program (AILP) last March 17, 2017 at the MIS Campus in Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines.

The Class of 2017 had a total of 88 graduates, where 42 cadets will earn a degree in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation while 46 cadets will earn a degree in Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering after completion of shipboard training. D/C Aljon D. Mariones received the Excellence and Best in Deck Awards, while other awards were presented to outstanding cadets namely, E/C Junie G. Cuaton, E/C Dante P. Pabroa, E/C John Carlo F. Ginos for Best in Engine; D/C Arnel L. Saludes, D/C Jeepee O. Camiña for Best in Deck; E/C Peter Paul O. Tapales for Best in Math; E/C Jhondel D. Camporedondo for Leadership Award; and D/C Kenneth A. Opetina for Servienda Award.

Alexander E. Querol, Chief Operating Officer of MIS, started the program with his welcome address. This year’s commencement speaker was Atty. Maximo I. Bañares, Jr., Deputy Executive Director of the Maritime Industry Authority. Other distinguished speakers included Junichiro Ikeda, President and CEO of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL); Doris Magsaysay Ho, President and CEO of A. Magsaysay, Inc.; Marlon R. Roño, President of MIS; Arnold B. Javier, President of Magsaysay Maritime Corporation; Alex M. Enriquez, Institute Director of MIS; Chief Engineer John C. Buendia, Dean of Academics of MIS; Captain Maasaki Nemoto, Senior Managing Executive Officer of MOL; Captain Francisco D. Menor, President of Magsaysay MOL Marine, Inc.; and Cecilia C. Borromeo, President of the Development Bank of the Philippines.

AILP was implemented in 2011 to respond to the global shipping industry’s increasing demand for skilled, competent, and dedicated seafarers. The program guarantees employment upon graduation where cadets are given onboard assignments in the founding partners’ and their principals’ vessels.
