In commemoration of World AIDS Day, Magsaysay conducted various activities to help curb the rising cases of HIV infection and to correct the stigma and discrimination that afflicts those living with the virus.

Jebsen Gamido, President of Global Pinoy Seafarers Plus, a non-profit organization that advocates for HIV/AIDS awareness in the seafaring industry, led a symposium that discussed HIV transmission and prevention. Besides the symposium that was participated by employees, seafarers and allottees, a free and voluntary HIV testing was also conducted and condoms were distributed to highlight its importance in preventing the spread of the virus.

To be able to engage the youth in the awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS, the Magsaysay Institute of Shipping, Magsaysay People Resources Corporation’s Cadet Development and Skills Upgrading Training Arm, also organized On the Spot Poster Making and Role Playing Contests that was participated by 89 cadets.

Earlier this year, Homer Foundation, Inc., Magsaysay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Arm, coordinated with the International Transport Workers’ Federation, Joint Manning Group and Associated Marine Officers' and Seamen's Union of the Philippines in the production and launching of the animated video, I Know My Status. The video, which is accessible in Magsaysay's local and global offices, aims to promote HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and control among seafarers.
