Magsaysay Wins the 2016 SAFETY4SEA Training Award

Dimitrios Orfanos, Chief Operating Officer of Dorian LPG, presented the 2016 SAFETY4SEA Training Award to Marlon R. Roño, President of MPRC

The inaugural SAFETY4SEA Awards recognized Magsaysay People Resources Corporation (MPRC) as the winner of the Training Award, which was held last October 5, 2016 in Athens, Greece. The Dorian LPG-sponsored award was received by Marlon R. Roño, President of MPRC.

SAFETY4SEA acknowledged MPRC’s continuous investment in innovative training programs and state-of-the-art facilities for its training arms—Magsaysay Institute of Shipping, Magsaysay Training Center and Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts.

The award was presented by Dimitrios Orfanos, Chief Operating Officer of Dorian LPG Management Corporation, who stated that, “Magsaysay’s focus to the individual seafarer has impressed us the most and have given us the much needed reassurance that we share the same values. Investing in manning and this practically means investing in people.”

Nominated with MPRC were Angelikoussis Shipping Group, Hellenic Naval Academy, LR Marine Training, and Videotel.

Concurrently at the 2016 SAFETY4SEA Forum, Roño was one of the panel speakers on Training and Development Challenges: The Crew Manager Perspective. In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of seafarers’ training in order to meet the technical requirements of modern vessels and the commercial needs of ship owners and their customers. He concluded that the discussion on training is no longer solely about the movement of goods and capital, but also about the industry’s most valuable resource—the seafarers—who have dreams, as well as aspirations to learn and become trained.
