AIDA Cruises Holds Family Gatherings in Cebu and Iloilo

AIDA Cruises' first Family Day in Iloilo City was attended by crew members, families and children from the SOS Children’s Village

As AIDA Cruises’ way of showing appreciation for the invaluable contribution of its Filipino crew, the leading German cruise line together with Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) celebrated family gatherings in Cebu and in Iloilo. The gatherings were spearheaded by Imke Mecke, AIDA Cruises’ Senior Manager for Recruitment; Walter Kuhnert, AIDA Cruises’ Training Manager for Asia; Abigail Berenguer, MMC Fleet Director for AIDA; Joyce Ruiz, MMC Fleet Manager for AIDA; Baby Hadloc, Branch Manager of MMC Cebu; and Fatima Agabe-Harder, Branch Manager of MMC Iloilo.

The third annual Family Night was held in Cebu City, where 198 crew, family members and 87 children gathered at MO2 Bar and Restaurant last January 31, 2016. Following the activity in Cebu City was the first Family Day in Iloilo City. Held last February 2 at Hotel Del Rio, the event was attended by 193 crew members together with their families and 53 children from Aklan, Antique and Capiz. Forty children from the SOS Children’s Village in Iloilo also attended the gathering along with SOS Village Director Renie Masongsong. Children from the SOS Village and the Dinagyang Tribu Pan-ay performed songs that made the event more fun and exciting.

These family events gave vacationing crew and their families a chance to bond together, enjoy good fellowship and showcase their talents. Besides the raffle draws and games, families of crew members also received video greetings from crew members who are currently on board AIDA vessels. Families in Iloilo were given a chance to return the greetings to the vessels.

In 2013, AIDA Cruises provided support to its 241 crew and their families in Cebu and Iloilo who were affected by the calamities that hit the Visayas region, including the earthquake in Bohol and Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). Some of the recipients who were present during the family gatherings thanked AIDA Cruises and its guests for the help they received.

AIDA Cruises is the leader in the German cruise market and has been awarded as one of the Top Employers in Germany. The company has been hiring Filipino crew members since 2006 through MMC, one of the world’s largest manning agencies providing skilled and competent officers and crew in the global shipping and cruise industries. Filipino crew occupy hospitality and technical positions on board AIDA vessels.
