Magsaysay Joins Sinulog Festival

CEBU, Philippines – Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) and Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) participated in the recently concluded Sinulog Festival last January 16-17, 2016.

Celebrated every third Sunday of January, the Sinulog Festival is considered to be one of the grandest festivals in the Philippines. It celebrates the Catholic devotion to the Child Jesus or Santo Niño (Spanish for Holy Child) through dances, processions, and rituals that connect Catholic traditions to the country’s rich pagan history.

MMC and MIHCA Cebu, headed by Branch Managers Baby Hadloc and Ira Ortega, teamed up to gather Magsaysay officers, crew members, allottees and students for a weekend of revelry. Various delicacies and products were sold by allottees and students along the street where the Magsaysay Building is located. Joining the MMC and MIHCA Cebu team were Magsaysay executives led by Marlon R. Roño, President of MMC; Alexander E. Querol, Chief Operating Officer of MMC; Paolo S. Guevara, Institute Director of MIHCA; and Alvin D. Gonzales, Sales and Marketing Manager of MIHCA. During the festival’s grand parade the next day, festival revelers witnessed the vessel-inspired float of Magsaysay which was boarded by MMC-deployed officers and MIHCA students.

In 2014, Magsaysay started to expand its operations in Cebu City and established MIHCA Cebu, the company’s hospitality and culinary training arm. The expansion in Cebu was driven by Magsaysay’s commitment to provide quality training facilities and employment opportunities to young aspiring talents in the city and its nearby provinces.
