MMC President Marlon Roño Speaks at 2015 SAFETY4SEA Athens Forum

Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) President Marlon Roño presented at 2015 SAFETY4SEA Forum in Eugenides Foudation, ​Athens, Greece last October 7, 2015. President Roño’ talked about the “Training and Development focusing to Retain Right Talents”. He discussed that since seafarers are essential to the shipping industry, it is important to train and develop them to retain them. This includes continuous skills upgrading, use of innovation and technology such as e-learning and mobile applications, career development, job rotation, and job transition to onshore opportunities. All these tools provide seafarers career direction and achieve their aspirations based on family vision. The family should also be part of the seafarer’s entire training and development process. ''A family-centric vision helps set the right goals for seafarers and their families'', said President Roño. He concluded his presentation by saying that training the seafarers as well as their family is an expression of caring leads to talent loyalty and retention.

The event has attracted a total of 1100 delegates from 30 countries representing a total of 480 organizations. The forum was divided into four sessions covering topics such as safety perspectives, safety, security and loss prevention, best practices and human element in the shipping industry. The annual event was organized by the SQE4SEA and MMC is one of the sponsors.
