Government Strengthens Local Shipping Industry

The Philippine government has implemented several measures to urge shipping companies to expand and modernize their operations. Government effort’s, including the exemption from value-added tax (VAT) from new ships and with the help of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), will boost operations in the local shipbuilding industry.

In line with this, the recently concluded conference on the enhancement of safety of ships carrying passengers on non-international voyages has adopted guidelines to help prevent maritime accidents on domestic passenger ships and address changes on maritime operations such as passenger counting, voyage planning, and the purchase of second hand ships.
