The Magsaysay Training Center (MTC) conducted the delivery of Security Officer Training Program Tier I to the entry-level security personnel onboard Carnival Corporation’s Operating Lines in agreement with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed last November 2014. The training program was attended by Indian and Filipino crew from AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Cunard, Holland America Line, Costa Cruises, Ibero Cruises, Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises, P&O Cruises Australia, and Seabourn. The program addresses the training requirements of newly hired security personnel serving onboard cruise ships owned and operated by the Carnival Corporation. At the end of the program, crew will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Perform security responsibilities and manage safety and security behaviors
  • Demonstrate proper utilization and deployment of security equipment and devices
  • Conduct searches of individuals, personal items and personal spaces in compliance with corporate requirements
  • Promote safe and secure environments and understand standards and the best practices related to security
  • Perform first responder responsibilities including crime scene preservation, crowd management, medical emergency and appropriate escalation triggers
  • Perform weapon and contraband identification through searches and monitoring devices

The program also covered theory and practical exercises on the applicable provisions of the mandatory requirements of ISPS Code, SOLAS 74, as amended, and of the STCW Convention, 2010 Manila Amendments, also taking into account the recommendations prescribed in the IMO Model Course 3.26, Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (2012 edition) and IMO Model Course 3.27, Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers (2012 edition).

Participants, also known as Security Cadets, received a Certificate of Completion jointly issued by MTC and Carnival indicating that the holder has completed the Security Training Program and the STCW mandated Ship Security Awareness Training (SAT) and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (SDSD). Last March 8, the third batch of trainees started their training and will end on the 21st. MTC has already scheduled the training program for the other batches of security personnel throughout the year.
